Is it necessary to remove a woman's bra to perform cpr or aed? Are there rules for discouraging gawkers? No you do not have to remove to do CPR or AED. That is as long as the pads are on the skin and not the clothing material, especially the under wire of the bra. However every time I work a cardiac arrest, one of the first things I do is "expose" the patient. Meaning I cut their shirt completely off. If the person was in a major traumatic event and are injured I cut ALL their clothes off, get them "trauma naked" as I was taught to refer to it in school. As the one place that you leave covered could be where the worse injury is. People "gawking' in this situation is not even remotely a concern, as the person by most definitions is currently dead. Or at least VERY sick. So basically what I am trying to say is a cardiac arrest, major trauma is not the time for modesty. However whenever possible, yes we do try to protect the patent's modesty by keeping them covered. no you dont have to remove the bra for cpr You don't need to remove a bra to perform CPR. I took a class on how to perform CPR and we didn't remove anything. We did it right thru the shirt. No it is not necessary to remove it to do CPR. Your hands will be placed over the lower half of her sternum, not the breasts. As for the AED, as long as you do not place the patches over the material of the bra and they are not touching a metal underwire or clips, then you can leave the bra on also. Just place the patches above and below the bra. You may have to move a strap over, but the bra can be left in place. If the bra is old and frayed and a metal underwire is visible and could by accident touch one of the patches, then remove the bra. Hope this answers your question. If your just doing CPR you don't have to, but If you have a defibrillator you will need to. Bras have metal hooks, Don't worry about other people, just do what needs to be done. They will thank you later and you are covered by a "Good Samaritan Law" just by trying to help. NO, YOU DONT HAVE TO REMOVE HER BRA FOR CPR YOU PERV !!!!...hope you dont work for /on the ems. you would take a few a** thumpings. Bra removal is required if it hinders CPR compression-point (due to its particular shape, metallic accessories etc.). CPR is done on the lower half of the strenum, two finger widths up from the lower edge. If a wire or closure on the bra would damage the skin of either victim or rescuer, removal is appropriate. The rescuer may be pushing on there hundreds of times while waiting for paramedics. Paramedics will just cut any clothing off to check for other injuries. If you are worried about having to remove a bra, YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG!!! |
