Bipolar or misdiagnosis? |
I believe I have been correctly diagnosed with Bipolar disorder based on my confidence in my doctor as well as matchin all of the symptoms. However, since this diagnosis... a mood stabelizer has been added to the medicine I already take for depression/anxiety/adhd. I was on Geodon (worked at first then caused panic attacks, etc.) and then on Risperdal (no energy/zombie/similar side-effects to Geodon but not as bad). As of today, my doctor is trying me on Abilify. I'm just curious as to whether my symptoms are possibly becoming worse because of these new mood stabelizers or just because I am going through a 'despressive episode' with the Bipolar disorder. Im just frustrated and confused. Any similar experiences from anyone or opinions? when I was diagnosed it took them a while to find the right combination of medication to get me stabilized... some times it just takes a while... as long as you're not having suicidal thoughts you'll be ok... just make notes of your concerns with the medications you are taking and express them to your doctor and if something is not right I'm sure he will adjust it or change it... good luck... If u freak, u will b put away. Shrink has never taken drugs and never been locked up. Good luck. Do you want to be on drugs for the rest of your life???? if your diagnosis is bipolar, some antidepressant should be prescribed for you. in absence of these drugs(e.g. prozac) patient can enter to a depression episode. but abilify is only a antipsychotic drug that prescribe as a mood stabilizer. Been on meds for bipolar since 15, never heard of any of these meds...good old Lithium works for me...can't help you dear. But I can say when I am on the correct meds I don't have lows, just tiny highs (but that is me) Only you know if your symptoms are truly becoming worse. It sounds like the symptoms you're talking about (panic attacks, no energy, etc) are side effects of the meds. Those are very powerful anti-psychotic medications that have mood stabilizing effects. Most likely your doctor is having you switch meds to help you find the right medicine/dosage for your bipolar. I know it's frustrating, but it takes time and patience to find the right meds for you. Hang in there. I was put on Geodon as well. As you said it work really well at first, than thing started to change. I would have panic attacks, I was afraid of the world. I was not myself it was as if it changed me completely. I begged the doctor to take me off the meds. He put me on a mood stabilizer called Neuronton.(spelling). He has stressed to me that this med is NOT bipolar approved. But it worked for me before. That is when I was not diagnosed as bipolar. I have not have the anger outbursts, but the excitability is present. I have become myself again. I hope and pray that I will be able to learn to deal with the manic and depression with this meds because I do not want those side effects as well. I am not sure if this helped by I was glad to hear that someone else has had that same reaction to Geodon. |
