Can ADHD can be caused by Child Abuse?

hey guys... im kinda wondering
i has been diagnostis as ADHD and During that time I had a rough time in my life and soo that rough time which is abuse soo I am kinda wondering that Could Child abuse cause ADHD? I know ADHD is also genetic but it also be another cause but i just wanna know Could Child abuse be the cause?

Usually the cause is genetic. Child abuse is not a causal factor. It can create an environment that makes a controlling parent more likely to abuse, since the child lack a certain amount of impulse control with ADHD.

Child abuse can cause ANYTHING...just not diseases or anything...unless you were sexually assaulted. But yea, it's possible to get any kind of disorder if you were abused when you were younger. ADHD isn't one of the most common ones, but it's very possible. I'd be more inclined to think that you'd have something like Dissociative Disorder or Bipolar disorder...but you could have adhd because of it anyway.

I dont think so. My cousin has it and he wasnt abused he has had it since birth. He gets knockd around a lil bit now for being so off the wall.

However, in your childhood, your not-as-yet-diagnosed ADHD may have made one of your parents (or both) lose patience with you and discipline you too harshly. An ADHD child is very hard to discipline if they are hyper and impulsive. And, in turn, say if your dad was also ADHD and wasn't on meds, then his impulsitivity would have probably been the reason he hit you so quickly. He would have hit first, and then thought about what he did AFTER the fact. I'm just guessing though, since you didn't give details about the abuse.

My son is/was ADD and he was very impulsive. You could tell him a million times not to do something and before I knew it, he would automatically and impulsively do it anyway.

I have both ADHD and Autism. I really don't think that child abuse can cause ADHD. It's just something you are born with. But I do think that child abuse can cause Manic Depression. My step-mom has manic depression and she told me all about her childhood and how she was abused.

Im really sorry to hear about the fact you have had a hard time. I Have ADHD and its hereditory, but i dont think that child abuse is a cause of ADHD. as ADHD is the imbalance of two chemicals in your brain which are not connected to the emotional and phycological side of the brain x
