Do ADHD or ADD people have normal IQ? Is their IQ above or below average? |
Do you think people who have ADHD or ADD have a below average IQ? Some call ADHD people "special" but what does that mean? Is it just a feel good word or does it have some truth to it? Many times people with ADHD or ADD that have high IQ's do not get diagnosed until late in their life, because they didn't experience the same difficulty in school that other people with ADHD or ADD did. They are able to "fake" it better because they are naturally smarter. I know someone with ADHD who has a genius level IQ, and he's always gotten okay grades with almost no effort just because he's so smart, but at the same time he can't study effectively, he has a very difficult time with his thought process, and he suffers from ADHD in other ways in his life. ADHD and ADD just isn't about acting out in school. It's an entirely different wiring of the brain. Some people can cope with it better because they do have higher IQ's, thus it isn't as noticed. I have ADHD and a high IQ, its actually 145 like "redhead with love". I never studied in high school and still received an academic honors diploma. I figured out I had ADHD because my complete inability to stay focused while studying. There is a strong correlation between high IQ and ADHD. Report It Normal IQ Individuals with ADD/ADHD have levels of intelligence that are often above that of the general population. IQ doesn't have much to do with it. Okay, I'm gonna try not to take this post personally. Look back over my posts. Do I sound as if *I* have a "below-average I.Q."? I'm A.D.D. No, *not* ADHD, which entails an involvement of hyperactivity. I'm a diagnosed add brat myslef. I took medication for years, due to add I also have dyslexia and dyscalculia. My IQ is 145 which Is abnormal for my age. I think it depends on the person. Sometimes people with add and or adhd also have other mental disabilities which might make them "special" as you put it. I am really smart and I have ADD, specifically Adult ADD. |
