ADHD And driving? (Driving instructors and people with ADHD please)?

Ok I have ADHD I gonna start to learn to drive soon truth is I鈥檓 scared witless will I concentrate, will I remember things, how to drive apparently its like riding a bike?
I know all the stuff don't drive with radio and all

How can I tell my driving instructor I have it and help him help me learn, but what can I do I mean ok
This person will have no I dear how to teach a kid like me I get easily frustrated when things go wrong I can鈥檛 ask for small breaks cause there only so long sessions

What should I say to him/her? Can u give me any tips on how to make it easier to learn I鈥檝e already decided I鈥檓 gonna ask if I can place letters on the pedals not to look at but well I can't explain

Another thing I鈥檓 worrying about is gears it would probably be easy in a auto but I don鈥檛 want 2 restrict myself I mean apparently autos are even more expensive.

HELP detailed answers appreciated.

Also driving with an auto mean I鈥檓 stuck with auto for life I mean its put on my driving licence so that鈥檚 all I can drive soz just wanted to add

I have ADHD and I too was concerned about driving, as were my parents, who insisted I wait a couple years longer to get my license. That was 15 years ago, and I've not gotten in any accidents nor been cited for traffic offenses since. I found that when I drive I am able to hyperconcentrate ( a talent most people with ADHD posses, as when something intrests you and you only focus on that one thing) and focus solely on my driving. I drive a manual transmission vehicle and have found that since it keeps my mind and hands busier it helps keep my focus on driving. Remembering how to drive and the rules of the road were never a problem for me. I love driving! Don't worry about it so much take it in stride and enjoy the experience, I'm sure you'll do great! Hope this helps, best of luck to you.

Oh yeah BTW all those who think ADHD is an excuse or fallacy, try living one day in our shoes and youll see just how much of a disability it really can be.

I think that you should calm down and take one thing at a time. An automatic transmission would be a lot easier to learn starting out. You should probably practice in an empty parking lot or something similar first. Believe me, you will not forget which pedal is the gas and which is the break after you start driving. A trick I learned starting out with the blinkers was that down is closer to my body and left is closer to me. Up is farther away and right is farther away from me. This is if you're driving in the U.S.A. You'll do fine, it just takes practice.

firstly i think ADHD is just a reason for incapable parents to justify there own lack of ability my nephew was diagnosed with it and there is nothing wrong with him anyway. Now manual cars are a piece of p*ss UK right hand pedal accelerator, middle pedal brake, left pedal clutch.Your right leg controls accelerator and brake your left leg controls the clutch. The accelerator puts more fuel into the engine which makes it run faster(acceleration<accelerator)Now the clutch will allow you to engage the gears or disengage the gears, now it doesn't matter how fast the engine is running unless your in gear you wont go any where unless your rolling down hill.As the revs build up you need to change gear 1st,2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th you can do this in your bedroom left hand changing gear.Automatics are easier to drive and cheaper to learn in but with a manual licence you can drive both auto allows auto only good luck and don't worry

stop acting like its such a disability, you should be able to do fine, there are medications and things now to keep that under control

The first thing to remember is that us Driving Instructors are not judgemental with problems of drivers, we get them all the time, but for goodness sake explain the situation as much as you can to the Instructor when you meet him so he can plan the lesson round your problem, there is nothing worse than taking on a pupil with a problem whatever it is and the pupil not telling us they have a problem, we get the wrong idea about the pupil when we are teaching them when they do not tell us of any problem such as common ones like Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Cerebal Palsy, major brain operations causing short term memory loss, and believe me I have had pupils with all these problems so be positive, be determined, take your time and don't be afraid to make an idiot of yourself when you are learning because we understand.
