ADHD doubters?

Do you know anyone, or have you, ever been diagnosed with ADHD? Do you have any personal experience with it, or do you not believe in it on principle?

AND PLEASE- answer without the usual rhetoric and quotes, I am interested in your personal association with ADHD.

Thanks to all who answered. I noticed you all believe in the condition, even if you believe it is over diagnosed. I would like to hear from some of the people that -don't- believe in it. I have read many posts stating that ADHD does not exist and I wanted to hear from some of those posters.

I think it is a real problem that affects a very small number of people. I think it is way overdiagnosed and overtreated. I think a lot of people want a diagnosis that will give them an excuse or an answer where they otherwise would not have a simple explanation.

I also think people take too many drugs, and drugs should only be used as a last resort.

I have had multiple friend who had and, and some who didn't but were medicated. I think it is a real condition but there are too many peple being treated for it.

As one that has adhd and my X and my son yes in some it is there, your mind just does not stop and you just keep going nonstop some times cool other times not. but I do think DR are to fast to say pit theme on MEDS I only did that as a last fix. I do think one that thinks they are adhd needs to go to some one that just is not going to gives meds YES it is to easy to get meds . some that do not need theme for this. But if you or some one youknow has ADHD your mind just does not stop and it can make it hard for school and for work .

my nephew has adhd and has been on meds since 8 yrs old. he's now 18 and can't function 'normally' without it. 3 yrs ago his dad went on meds. for it,too. nephew is talented guitar player, his dad's an artist; their works are not as good when medicated. without meds - WOW!!! INCREDIBLE!!!

they have their good points and bad.
the meds for adhd , depression, add etc. makes your hair go grey early and rot teeth from the inside out (so when a cavity arises it's too late to fix)

My child has it Plus ODD. I think I have an it also but it has not been dx.

It can be fustrating and rewarding at the same time.

sorry i am also a believer, but at one point in time i wasnt. What changed my mind you may ask, i have a daughter who was diagnosed with it. I have had people tell me that its the sugar, caffeine, not disciplining blah blah blah. But in truth, we limit her sugar, she doesnt drink caffeine, and we do discipline her, and she has manners. But she is restless, and has trouble focusing and paying attention. She can't sit still for anyting, she always figets, etc. She pretty much acts as if she runs on a motor. She has been on meds for 5-6 years and has to take pills to help her sleep. Without the meds to sleep, she would just stare at the ceiling and walls and cry and scream for hours.

I am ADD, I had many problems with daydreaming and losing concentration in just a normal conversation. My husband is ADHD. He has a hard time trying to apply for jobs and he CAN NOT sit still. My son is ADHD and my girls will be tested soon. I believe in ADHD. I believe many kids watch too much TV and play too many video games which cause symptoms like ADHD. Kids nowadays are too used to immediate satisfaction which causes them not to have the concentration for things in a slower form. This does not mean that I believe TV is bad or Video Games. My kids learn very well from them. My husband for instance... I would go to work and when I got home I knew exactly where to find him. In front of the TV playing a video game. He wasn't your average male. Video games was his life and hobby. I have since gotten him slowed down giving him other things that are fun to do. But he is really into computers which is pretty normal for ADHD. So I do see where there are a lot of cases that get misdiagnosed as ADHD but I believe a lot of the therapists now know better.
