ADHD, how can I stay focused?

I have ADHD and am a junior in high school. I do have an IEP (for ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety disorder) but attention and focus are still an issue in school and a major issue outside for homework. I'll start super determined to finish, and I'll realize five minutes later I am already doing something else, even if I am generally interested. But, if I'm really interested in something, I get hyper-focused, and forget about the world around me (this doesn't happen often). Anyone have any tips for remaining focused for periods of time longer than 5 minutes?

Also, anyone know any tips to stop fidgeting? I am always in trouble for tapping my feet, playing with pencil, cracking knuckles ect.

Thank-you all

Since you seem to know the diagnoses, are you taking medication already? If so, perhaps you might ask your doctor if you need a medication adjustment, because they are not working as good as they should.

As for tips on focusing, whenever you notice that you are doing something "different," tell yourself you must go back and finish the task at hand, no matter HOW much the other thing grabs your attention. When you don't know what's going on around you, because you are attempting to finish the task at hand, ask yourself why is it important to know what else is going on in the world or even in your room. The tapping of your feet, the pencil, the knuckles, all of those go along with ADHD. May I suggest that you practice "letting go" of whatever is bothering you. It will take practice. Nothing happens in God's world by mistake. For me, personally, I believe that God is in control of my life, and I don't need to continually "figure out" what to do next. Perhaps these suggestions will help you. I pray they do.

Good luck, and God bless you!

There's soo much you can do.
I have ADHD, and I take meds for it, no matter how much I don't want to. They are kind of a necessity, no matter how hard it is to accept. And they're expensive.
Things you can do is fix your diet.
Cut all soda and candy and junk food out of your diet, and add some vitamin supplements.
I've discovered, that, while doing your homework, if you eat carrots or grapes or something, you focus better. Like you eat and work at the same time. AND it helps with the fidgeting. Win-win.
Dang it. Now I want some grapes......

I have an Asian friend, named Tyler who makes all A's, and one time he told me that when he starts getting distracted, that he just materbates and then after that, he can concentrate better on his work. It has something to do with reliving stress and calming down your mind. Kinda like marijuana does, I guess. No lie, I'm telling the truth. However, I've never practiced his methods, but I've never made all A's either, so whatever.
