ADHD Help!!!!?

When I was Young I was diagnosed as having ADHD. I grew up full of energy, more then my parents could handle. Now in my older years (24) I am Married and have a son. I have some discipline in my life due to serving in the Army for 4 years. But My ADHD always comes to bite me in the ***. I Forget things, I lose things, I talk to people and have no clue what was said. I meet people andshake theirhands, they say their names and I am not even paying attention to them, even though I am looking them right in the face. I answer question I don't even hear.
What can I do????

LOL welcome to foot in mouth decease. As i call it because my husband is adhd and some of the things that comes out his mouth before he thinks about what he is saying. your poor wife. talk to your doc there are options to help with adhd drugs most are stimulants but there are a few anti-depressant that work as well. i would highly remand talking to a therapist that is trained in helping adult with adhd they can help you find ways to re-think and be active listener. what we (my husband and I) helpful about forgetting things is programing a palm pilot or his cell with import things that he commonly forgets to do and setting an alarm to go off as a reminder. good luck and your not alone.

All wellcome to come and let out anything about ADHD, the more the better! Report It

Don't know but if you find out let me know .......... sounds like me!

Talk to your doctor about maybe taking a perscription for your ADHD. It probably will help, I know it helps my brother out a lot (he also has ADHD) and makes him a lot calmer, instead of jumping off the walls.

Sorry, I lost focus half way through your question.

go see a quak

well drugs are bad most army might be a good Life stile fore you espical if you did well the first for

carry a note pad and write things down or a dictaphone to record facts. Keep calm... count to ten ...pretend you have a hearing problem and get people to repeat their names or questions.... mmmnn.... deep breaths....keep cool..... good luck!

I would go and see your GP and explain it all to him/her you might find that they can refer you to someone who can help you with some strategies in concentration and memory.
Good luck

i myself have grown up ADHD i'm 17 now and still have trouble concentrating and i find it very over whelming i have found taking meds works the best and its NOT only ridilin there are other things you can tak milder things and if the pill makes you "zombied out" then get off it!!! it may take a while to find the pill thats right for you but when you find it...it makes life a heck of a lot easier!

get some meds, and learn as much as you can about your disability , yes its a disability. try to educate people around you about your disability. remember you are protected by law under the people with disabilities act. you can not be discriminated against, because you have a learning disability. learn as much as you can about the law and use it to your advantage. ADHD is just as crippling as allot of disabilities but it goes unrecognised.

I find I am the same way. To help, I write things down, and say the person's name a lot. I also repeat things back to make sure i understand, or rephrase it. Oh, and don't just look at them, you have to make sure you are really listening to them. Tune out everything else. I know it is very hard, but with time, you will get better. To prevent forgetting, make lists and check them off as you go, or leave things at the door near your shoes.

accept urslef as u r & let people love u as you are. I have seen this book, but I think is for children but is by a very respected author. Please have a look. If you don't forget important things like leaving your child behind (joke) then don't worry.. I love the fact that we are different & we can laugh at our stupid mistakes.
