Can some people just not wear contact lenses? |
I used to go to the little beauty store and buy sample colored contacts to wear when I went out on the weekends and such. That was until I got a "corneal epithelium abrasion" from ill fitting contacts....yeah, yeah, I know- my own dumb fault. I know you've heard this before I"m sure, but they came out with a fairly new material called balafilcon A which lets a ton more oxygen pass through to the surface of the eye. I have astigmitism and my contacts are a little "heavier" if you will, and until they came out with the new material, I was going through the rewetting drops. But to answer the other part, there are just some people that can't wear contacts. Visit with your O.D. they will have your best interests in mind. I can't wear contacts. It has something to do with the shape of my eye and the fact that it moves slightly more than a normal eye.I worn them once and ended up with it way up in my eye socket, I had to go in to the ER to have it removed. My eye was badly scratched and took a month to heal. So yes there are some that just can't wear them. i think everyone can ware contacts..dont worry about it, im sure you can too.. i also have terrible vision, but i can get contacts.. i just have to show them i can get them in, then there mine! lol.. but thats my problem, AnYwAyS, dont worry, you can get contacts.. go to the eye doctor and get them! they rock! lol There are some people who can't wear contact lenses (for example, people with extreme dry eye or other systemic problems), but most people can. If I were you, I would go back to where you were fitted and see if you can try another type of contact lens. They may need to fit you with a contact lens type better for dry eye (for example, proclear compatible or extreme H20). Another thing you may want to careful of is the use of lotions before putting your contacts in because they may coat the lens and cause blurry vision. Also, changing solutions may be helpful (clearcare or aquify are often good for dry eye). I had the same problem when I tried contacts - and I work with an eye doctor. Every time a new brand of lens came in that was supposed to be good for dry eyes, I would try them (I wore clear lenses) and after an hour, I was ready to scratch the lenses out of my eyes. They were dry and cloudy and felt awful. And then when I'd try to take them out, they were SO dry, that I would have a heck of a time getting them out. It was like peeling wall paper off of my cornea. I gave up and I just wear my glasses. I have yet to find lenses that work for *me*. It's true, some people just can't wear contact lenses. Some have a sensitivity to the material of the lenses themselves and others have a real problem with insufficient tear production. In my particular case, I have both a problem with dry eyes and an inability to read small print when I'm wearing them. That's why I generally don't wear contact lenses when I'm reading or doing work that requires fine details. |
