ADD and ADHD?

I have ADD. What is the difference between ADD and ADHD? If a person have ADD, does that mean they have ADHD? If a person have ADHD, does that mean they have ADD? Are these two diseases hereditary? What are the chances that I will pass it down to my kids? What caused it? Is it curable?

ADD and ADHD are two different names for the same disorder. Sometimes the names change over time, but I believe that ADHD is the most recent name.

In answer to your questions: ADHD stands for Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. People who have this disorder are sometimes characterized by the following symptoms: hyperactivity, difficulty concentrating on work or school, inattention, and so forth. The official standards for diagnosing ADHD has a list of twenty or so items, and if you have a certain number of those symptoms, you are diagnosed with the disorder.

A tendency to ADHD is hereditary. In other words, it's not a guarantee, but there is a chance that you can pass the disposition to have this disorder on to your kids.

In the brain, people with ADHD generally have a shortage of dopamine, an important brain chemical. The part of the brain that is responsible for governing action in other parts of the brain and helping you to concentrate usually doesn't work to full capacity.

ADHD can be treated with a number of stimulant drugs. You might want to talk to a psychiatrist about what treatment options will work for you. The best possible treatment is often a combination of medication and talk therapy with a mental health professional.

Some people with ADHD seem to "grow out" of it, while other people with ADHD need treatment their whole lives.

This is a very basic introduction to information about this disorder. I recommend that you talk with a psychiatrist (probably the person who diagnosed you) or other mental health professional to address more information.

ADD is attention deficit disorder. ADHD is attention deficit hyperactive disorder, so there is a hyperactive component to the second. It is treatable but not curable. Adderall XL works well on my son, and I think also they give it to adults with ADD. It is hereditary from what I've heard, though have not read it in black and white. ADD as well as ADHD are caused by a chemical imbalance in the body.

Add stands for atention deficet disorder and adhd stants for atention deficet hiperacive disorder neather is curiable but can be treated. As for the hereditary neather is so you don't need to worry about that.

ADD by definition is Attention Deficit Disorder. ADHD by definition is Attention Deficit HYPERACTIVITY Disorder. The difference between the two is the level of activity displayed as a result of the inability to function/concentrate/focus.

There are multiple pharmaceutical remedies, though researchers now believe that early attention to the "retraining" of the mind, i.e. attention to a child's formative years of learning, and abstinence from drugs, can result in a "manageable" child.

Cut the sugars and dyes out of your diet. This will help and can possibly replace any treatments given. The effects of processed sugars and certain dyes on the brain have been proven to have a huge contributing factor on ADD/ADHD. Your children are more likely to have it, but there are things you can do to reduce the possiblity. Environmental stimulants such as diet, social stimuli, even the television have a great effect on ADD/ADHD. And beware, it is an easy label to put on a child or adult when there may be something else wrong entirely. I learned a great deal about it because they assumed I had that problem even to the point of unnecessary medication until they found out it was post traumatic stress. I've seen many things be misinterpreted the same way. I suggest learning as much as you can and doing everything you can if you have any concern. Read, talk to doctors, and don't listen to most people's opinions, because it has been so convoluted.

If your child has ADD or ADHD, I strongly recommend trying Straterra, the most recent drug for kids that was developed by Lilley using kids and it is non-narcotic. Ritalan and Adderral are narcotic.
