ADD/confidence help!!!? |
i am 14 and have ADD.at 1st i nvr told ANYONE i had ADD and then my mom told my BEST friends mom and her mom told my friend and now they always tease me and say "did you take your pill today??"as a joke and i also have a lisp and they tease me 4 that 2.and its really starting to hurt my feelings.and im also having a really hard time studying i try to do it but i nvr get into it and i just stop and then i fail the test the next day.my mom gets really upset and expects me 2 get all a's and b's but i have never been that kind of student.i know i dont try but i feel like its not my fault its my stupid ADD's falt!!!please help me and give me some advice on how to tell them it hurts my feelings when they tease my about my ADD and my list..!!!!!!! Oh honey. kids are so cruel. Alot of people have ADD and you shouldn't be made fun of it because you have it. Maybe you shouldn't be around those people. Just be direct and stern when ypu tell them that you don't like when they make fun of you. If they don't stop, stop talking to them. Sometimes I lisp too...everyone does stupid things when they talk like lisp and stutter and make up words that aren't even in the dictionary.. When you are a little older you'll find that people really don't care about stuff like that. You sound like maybe you'd benefit from having a tutor to help with schooling. that is nothing to be ashamed of. Alot of people, even really smart people are tutored. Being under stress will definately hurt your concentration, so RELAX! Good luck! your mom never should have said anything to your friends mother. use your add as an advantage, somebody asked you for something, say, oh, its my add, my bad, short term memory loss! You have nothing to be ashamed of. My daughter has ADD and when she was younger they put her on Ritalin which only made her tired so they switched her to Cylert which only made her loopy. I pulled her out of school, took her off meds. and home schooled her. She is now 20 and thriving. She doesn't need meds she just has to learn how to become aware of what is going on around her. I bet you have a special gift too..hers is drawing and poetry(and if I knew how to get her published she would make her mom very rich lol). She also had a college reading level when she was in the third grade. So you see ADD students are gifted. Find your gift. Start a diary and put all your feelings into it. Stress may be causing your lisp to be worse and a diary will help. If your friends can't stop teasing you then they are not your friends. Find someone who doesn't have a friend and become one to them. I know ADD makes you shy so when my daughter would get hurt because she wasn't included with other kids or she couldn't make friends I always told her "Remember, Turkeys stay in a group but Eagles soar alone." |
