ADD medications?

I just finally figured out the cause to so many of my problems when i took a test for ADD and answered yes to 27 out of 27 of the questions. What are your views on ADD medications? I tend get dependant on medicaions fairly quickly and i know that the add meds are very addictive. How can i know if they are right for me?

when i was 17 someone gave me some adderall and i took it before school and it made a huge difference on my concentration and it made me feel really happy and excited, so i am tempted with trying it again but i am concerned about the long term side effects because I have a heart disease that effects my heartbeat and i am only 115 lbs.

Try the conservative route first. You need to change your diet. Many of the foods we eat are responsible for this condition. I'm going to guess you are a fast food and processed food junkie. You need to do your research on food additives, especially MSG. If you adopt more of a vegetarian diet with fresh uncooked foods you will see a change. Stay away from processed foods.

I don't care for the meds because they either make me feel sluggish or make me sick to my stomach....i found that drinking caffeine helps me focus....its a stimulant so it works the same way the meds do....give it a try....if you don't like it then talk to your doctor about meds

Historically, the single classification of medicines most closely associated with the temporary reduction of ADHD symptoms is the central nervous system stimulants - alerting agents. The weakest stimulant - alerting agent - is coffee - caffeine compounds; stronger ones include Ritalin, Dexedrine, Adderall, etc.

A med for ADHD works for some (not everyone).

The odds of finding a perfect med for ADHD is zero. The odds of finding a good med which works well long term (years, decades) for ADHD is small (5% or less).

The right med allows a person to temporarily pay attention a little better (distractibility reduced, attention span increased) and also to realize what ADHD is/isn't for him/her.

ADHD is as real as the epilepsies, Tourette's, and Parkinson's. Good luck.

-First of all, get a diagnosis by a professional in the mental health field. Don't rely on tests in books and online. Print out the test if you took it online & take it with you to the doctor.
-There are other meds besides stimulants. Again, talk to your doctor.
-You can work with your doctor about which meds are right for you.
-ADD meds help people improve the quality of their lives.
-You might need to take meds every day. This is not an addiction in a bad sense of the word. Talk to your doctor.
Take care, hope you find some help and some answers.
