ADD and compulsive lying?

Does ADD and/or ADHD cause compulsive lying? my husbands parents blame his lying tendencies on his ADD and I was just wondering is this correct? is lying part of ADD at all?

i have ADHD and i'm not a compulsive liar...i do know a kleptomaniac who's a compulsive liar though...but i mean, ya kind of have to lie about what you steal, right? lol

Anywho, i don't think that lying comes with any mental dysfunction...it all has to do with the person who's doing the lying and whether or not he thinks it's wrong. It's not like someone is twisting his arm for him to lie...the man makes a conscious choice.

Symptoms commonly associated with Adult ADD in adults include:

* Lack of focus
* Disorganization
* Restlessness
* Difficulty finishing projects
* Losing things

P.S. >>> Keep your mind open though...'cause ADD CAN cause compulsive behavior (emphasize on "compulsive behavior." Like, consistently washing his hands, or always touching his right ear)...Doesn't mean compulsive LYING (but it is a possibility!) ^___________________^

So, who knows...maybe he does have a an issue with lying...it's just that, not everyone experiences a condition the same way. Don't let him use it as an excuse though...You should suggest therapy if his behavior consists. Good Luck! <3

I have ADD and I don't lie. My fiance actually tells me that I'm a bad lier whenever I even try. His parents should be more understanding of the condition. Does he lie alot? Or just to his parents? Maybe he lies to them so they will think better about him even though it's not helping. They don't sound very supportive. No, they are not connected.

He might just be a compulsive lair..people are known to have more than 1 disorder and it doesnt have to be connected to eachother.

One of the symptoms for ADD and/or ADHD children is the tendency to lie. The tendency may not go away as an adult but the realization that the tendency is there should trigger the adult ADD/ADHD to maturely tell the truth. There is an interesting website that can help you understand the tendency - http://www.adhdnews.com/testforum/test59...

Good luck

No. Lying is not part of ADD/ADHD in any way.

That is totally retarded, ADD and lying have nothing to do with each other. I have ADD and have done a lot of research about it and have never heard that. Nor have I had that problem. I hate lying and I hate to be lied too. What would be more likely is that your husband is also mentally ill. I have read a lot about all types of mental illness. There are certain mental illnesses where habitual and compulsive lying is a main symptom. I do believe that mental illness and ADD are linked because I have problems with both and I know others who share those problems too. Or, he could just be a liar and his parents are trying to cover for him by lying to you. But his lying would not come from ADD or ADHD. It sounds like his parents might be a lot of his problem too.

Listen carefully, parents are usually the sole reason for the neurotic behavior....they're guilty and they feel it.

Hubbie has to re-evaluate relation with dysfunctional parents or you're in trouble.
