ADD is real.?

i am sick and tired of people saying that ADD is a case of bad parenting.. sorry to say but that is a bunch of ******** and if you honestly think that then you are wrong. besides, there is an innatentive type too and that has nothing to do with bad parenting. I have the innatentive type and it's the hardest thing i have ever dealt with in my life. I posted my last question, and someone had the nerve to ask.."where are the chinese add kids"...like wait, are you kidding me? yes a few people get diagnosed inncorectly but the disorder is definitely real and i have proof to show.

It's real. Anyone who has to deal with it close up knows that it is real. My youngest brother has ADHD and has had great difficulty with a lot of things. He is now on medication and it's been great because he's actually moving through college courses. He never was able to before.

Ignore people. They have no idea. How do they know that other cultures don't have this problem? Just because it's not publicized doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

What kills me is the filthy rich that lie and cheat to get their kids diagnosed so they have a better chance at getting into the ivy league schools. That makes me ripping mad. It's a slap in the face to those who have real problems.

I'm dyslexic. I think I have a touch of ADD or ADHD. I find it very hard, if not impossible to sit still sometimes. But I can manage it. But it can be a struggle. It's painful.

i know what you mean, it is a real condition not a symptom of bad parenting.

I agree with you.

ADD is very real - and does affect a lot of children and adults, alike. BUT - it is more than a 'few' misdiagnosed cases. I used to work for a pshychiatrist - and was shocked at the parents who brought their kids in - that were acting like normal hyper kids - to be medicated so they didn't have to 'deal' with it. And darn if they didn't give them a prescription. ADD is not hyperactivity - it's much more than that - inattentave is one of them. My daughter is on ADHD meds - but I didn't just rush her off for a quick fix. Diet, exercise and a very established routine can help symptoms, too. Tricks like chewing gum while doing homework help them focus a little better. Good luck - and don't worry - if you know you are doing what is best for your child - then don't worry a bit about what anyone else thinks! Good luck!

Bravo! well said. People talk just because they have a mouth, and don't think of what they say. They don't have a clue of what it is like to live with ADD/ADHD or to have someone with ADD/ADHD.

Possible resource.

ADHD - ADD - Hyperactivity (a neurological challenge) is as real as epilepsy, Tourette's, and Parkinson's.
