ADD/ADHD info needed?

I am giving a speech for my speech class and am needing to find out some information on ADD/ADHD. I am not having much luck finding ratios online. I am wanting to know how many kids in the U.S are diagnosed each year with this, and one in (howmany) kids have add/adhd in the U.S

first of all, I to believe that add or adhd is an easy way out for some parents at times, but I do have a child that is having a lot of problems in school right now, and the school suggested add/adhd, but I never thought she had that, went to a physc. and she also agreed she didn't have this, but she does have a LD(learning disability) and it effects her at school a lot. so to say kids are lazy or don't care, you know I sit with my daughter for at least thirty minutes a day just to help her get through a few pages in a book, and I see the frustration on her face, some kids are lazy, but I know my isn't. every teacher or spec. ed. teacher all say she is the hardest worker, she just hasn't gotten it yet. And I hope with tutoring and help from her parents, she can get through this.

I found one site that might help. My son has ADHD and I understand the comment about the medication is speed. He is correct sorry to tell you. I have seriously thought about taking my son off the medication, but it does help him at school. His grades went from D's to A's and B's within one year. My concern is now I heard that long term side effects resulting in brain damage. It's very nerve wrecking for any parent. We want our children to receive quality care and the same kind of treatment and then at the same time we have to worry about future serious health problems. Have a good one.
EDIT: Blushing, Nice info on that website.. thanks, I was able to read it as well. Thumbs up to you!

its all crap kids don't want to focus on school work Excuses Excuses cry me a river!

Go to the library and get the "DSM" or "Diagnostic Statistical Manual" (version 4-R I think is the latest), and look it up - it's got all that.

i have some sad information on add/adhd for you. they give children who have it meth-amphetamines (speed). it does help them to focus supposably, but it is HIGHLY addictive and gets the little kiddies high as a kite.

I work in a public school. I work in a middle school with 900 students. From what I can tell the percent of students with ADD/ADHD is approaching 10%. I have witnessed a complete turnaround in children given ADHD meds. They are marvelous students when medicated. They are impossible to teach when they are not. But, to be fair, not every student needs meds. More accurate info is available at http://www.adhd-for-school-teachers.com/...

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) would be a very credible source for you. This link will take you to the ADD/ADHD page which includes the stats you are looking for:

Good Luck
