Is it ADD, or a symptom of depression?

I was diagnosed as ADHD [or ADD, I forget.] when I was young [age 9]. During those younger years, I remember feeling a great deal of anxiety and frustration on a regular basis, which are precursors of depression in kids. I became depressed during earily adolecence [age 12]. Since then I havn't been able to shake the depression. I'm still labeled as ADD, but isn't a sign of depression not being able to focus?

Is it ADD, or was I developing depression?

Since I've had had a hard time shaking it, could I have dysthymia?

I'm 20, and have been off meds since I was 15. Adderal didn't have much of an effect on me. I think it was 20mill.

I am not a doctor but I think ADD, anxiety and depression symptoms can all get confused...not focusing is a sign of both add and depression. However, if adderall did not help you at all, especially in school, then I would tend to think you need more of a clinical depression med...one that has to do with replacing the seratonin in your brain, that kind of thing. All the depression meds get really confusing, you need a referral to a specialist doc from your primary, unless your primary seems to know a lot about the depression meds and which one does what. Make an appointment and ask! Those meds also take at least a couple of weeks to make you feel less depressed, so it is a little tedious and frustrating, cause if the med needs to be changed cause it doenst work, you have to start all over again! Just go and try one, really. If you were diabetic, you would take a diabetes med, its the SAME THING. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise. I was not a fan of meds until I saw HOW THEY WORKED for me....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (severe anxiety)

i think you may be a hypochondriac!!! I strongly suspect there is nothing wrong with you - people are very quick to label young children when they are no tsure what is up

You did not say whether you are still medicated for ADD/ADHD. You also did not say how old you are now. Many ADHD/ADD medications have , as a side effect, some degree of depression. You need to talk to your doctor seriously about it. Do not just stop taking medication, most ADD meds have to be taken away gradually. Please see your doctor

I doubt that you are ADD. So many people are labeled ADD, but they really are not. I actually am ADD(I have proof) (concerta has worked miracles for me).
But i am willing to bet that whatever you have, is not ADD. Most likley it is like you say, just early signs of depression.
If this really bugs you, get a second opinion from another docter. Explain everything and don't let him make any assumptions untill you are through.
