Best ADD Medications? NOT HYPER?

What is the safest/best ADD medication? I have avoided them during my child hood because I did not feel they were safe, but I will be going to college soon and I need something to help with my ADD.

Don't just say "eat healthy" because I already do that, and I excercise, nothing helps, my last option is a medication. I just don't know of any safe ones to research.

Concerta is the medication many health care professionals try first. However, it does not build up in the blood stream and, once its 12 hour life-span is up, the crash coming down can be pretty major. Two of my kids are ADD and we tried Concerta initially, but found that if you take it in the morning (say at 7:00 a.m.), then by 7:00 p.m. you are totally pinging - bouncing off the walls, distracted, etc. Worse than if you had never taken it at all, I think.

We then switched to Strattera - I don't think it controls the ADD symptoms as effectively as Concerta does, but the advantage is that it does have a cumulative effect, i.e., it builds up over time. That way, if they miss a dose, it's not the end of the world, and there is no end of day "crash." So, we prefer the Strattera - this tends to help them have a more "steady" level of energy and concentration, instead of experiencing the two extremes.

Hope this helps.

Strattera.

Talk to your doctor about it. He will be the best person top talk to about low dose solutions.

addarol (sp)?i take addarol and rittilan

I take strettra and concerta, I like concerta better.

adderol, and rittelon (i dont know if i spelled them correctly.) work. but the have a side effect of depression. my brother has been doing fine with eating healthy (sorry) and taking lots of vitamin b. go to a nutrionist to get your self on a schedule of vitamins. not medication. so you arent on the last straw yet :]

You need to discuss that with a good doctor. If you Google ADD Meds and research them a bit, you will be in a position to ask your dr. some good questions.

THERE ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ADD. It's better to get a med for YOUR type of ADD.

Google "Amen Clinic" (amenclinic.com?) They have info. at the web site on ADD and ADHD. This dr. has researched them a lot and written books on it. I think he has a quiz online about it.

My son is 15 with ADD and going to try Wellbutrin.

Dimethyltryptomene, or DMT has worked best for me.

Wellbutrin/Zyban.
It's off label in the US, but I've lived in Asia for a bit and was given it there by a doc. It does what it's supposed to do without the feeling of getting hit in the head with a mallet, cartoon-style.
good luck!

adderall XR is what i take.it really helps.
