Adult ADD treatments?

All the adult ADD questions seem to be resolved with one of three general responses:
1) "keep a notepad" or
B) "you're imagining it, quit whining and man up" or
Thirdly: "you should talk to your doctor about it"

Think what you want about ADD/ADHD. They thought the same thing about clinical depression until recently. If you don't have it, you will never understand the disorientation or inability to focus.

So here's the thing. I was on meds for this for a bit. It worked great, but the additional effects were bad enough that I decided it wasn't going to work for me. I did some research and went with phosphatydl serine. It works pretty well for me once it builds up in my system. But I'd like to know what other people are using.

If you're wondering if you may be "one of us", I can't diagnose, I can only tell you my experience. I'm not stupid or lazy. I have an undergraduate degree, a Masters in Computer Science, and I'm working on a third, unrelated Masters. My symptoms manifest in different ways, but the most frustrating is the "light switch effect". I'll be working along just fine, dealing with whatever my task is at the moment, and suddenly I am unfocused, even a bit disoriented, and I can't put my finger on what my previous thought was. Even in the middle of an email or article, I couldn't tell you what my next sentence was going to be.

Notepads are great, as long as you NEVER PUT THEM DOWN. The first time it leaves your hand, you're doomed.

well i use a note pad but then i forget it, so i went to the doctor they prescribe me meds but really I'm starting to think it's just life and the doctors r the ones that have ADD cause he couldn't remember my name even after the chart told him.

Like you, I have a masters in Computer Science (it is a great field for us). You are obviously intelligent because you read before your asked (something I don't think 10% of the people do here). So I will skip my how to deal with ADHD as an adult spiel and just answer your question.

To treat my internal chemistry, i take Adderal twice a day.

To treat my external environment, I found a job that an ADHD person can excel at and then set proper expections with everyone I work with.

I am on Adderall XR 40 mgs. and I am able to master anything! I need focus and little distrations in order to handle tasks at hand. I used a little recorder instead of a note pad. In college, I was able to take my tests without the distrations of others. My life today is calm, not hectic, full, and worthwhile! Good luck!
