Any tips to stop chewing?


I mean like chewing tobacco? I've been doing it for about 6 years and want to stop. I chew normally about 3x a day but if I drink its a lot more and lately its been a lot more because I found out I couldn't play tennis this year because I tore my ACL. Any tips?

I recommend using an alternative to the tobacco. There are products out there that are meant to help you stop. If you use snuff (Copenhagen, Skoal, etc.) you should try Hooch Snuff. You can get it at http://www.hoochsnuff.com/. It feels the most like real tobacco and will help you get out of the use of real tobacco. If you use chew (Redman, etc.) it is a little more difficult as there are few products out there that can really mimic the tobacco.

Overall use of an herbal substitute (without nicotine) will reduce your withdrawl symptoms, but not the cravings for a dip / chew. That will only take time. Using nicotine replacement through herbal substitutes with nicotine, nicotine gum or patch, do not have as good a success rate as just plain herbal.

Get support from friends or a support group.
Don't buy any more. If necessary, don't go out drinking for a while. Remember the adage - one is too many, a hundred is never enough. Nicotine is incredibly addictive. You just have to stop - not cut down - but go cold turkey.

Also... find things to distract you. It's easy to think "what the hell" when you suffer a disappointment in your life. But don't give up on yourself. You deserve good health, and there's more to life awaiting you!

Work out what your triggers are, and try and avoid them, for a while, til you get the habit under control.

Some people find praying about it helps. This depends very much on your beliefs, I guess. The thing is to really make the decision to quit, and then hold yourself to it, whatever it takes.
