Losing weight effectively...atkins vs southbeach?

i used to be really athletic but an ACl injury stopped me from doing so since october '05...now i gained 30 pounds..how do i get it back effectively?

Of course, portion control and exercise is the best way for long term and signifigant weight loss. However, there is nothing better than Atkins if you have a few extra that just won't come off.

Example...a few years back I weighed 235lbs (I am 5'7). I changed my lifestyle, no more than 1500 calories 6 days a week and 1 day of allowing myself not to count. I added cardio exercise 3 days a week as well. Within a little more than a year I was down to 180...it took me another year to get down to 155 but at that point I stabilized. Even with increased exercise I just floated there.

I decided to do Atkins, and I was able to drop the extra 15 pounds in a little over 3 weeks. I then just went back to my 1500 a day, but now give myself 2 days off a week and I haven't gained a pound of it back.

I'm not sure if most have the willpower to do 2 days off and 5 days on but it is a lifestyle that is fantastic for me.

Good Luck!

diets dont work. you just have to eat healthier (less carbs, more protein. no junk food, sweets etc.) and exercise. try jogging, walking and biking. works like a dream.

Try this healthy one: http://www.garynull.com
I have for three years and I'm cut, healthy and energetic. I also have a total cholesterol of under 110 and my hair is growing back. Atkins creates an unhealthy situation for your body. South beach is pretty good I think.
I beat the airforces record for lowering my cholesterol in three months by almost 5 times over. The dietician uses my diet and my name as a reference now.

All it is is healthy, natural eating. You don't have to count anything just eliminate bad foods and things like hydrogenated oils.

Don't rely on a diet for everything... Atkins is not a good one!!!! It's hard on organs... Southbeach is better than that... I believe that all the carb counting is ridicoulous! Just eat a balanced diet with some low-fat substitutions and plenty of veggies and you'll be fine!

i think the atkins works better BUT YOU HAVE TO WORK AS WELL YOU CANNOT LOSE WEIGHT ON DIET ALONE if you do the atkins diet and drink alot of water and workout out good amount of time per week you should be looking great in about 3 months try it and let me know

try south beach diet:

I prefer Atkins myself, but the question is: Which one can YOU follow comfortably, for life? Which one is better for YOU?

I recommend that you read both plans, plus do some research on the benefits of a low-carb lifestyle. There are differences: Atkins is low-carb, adequate protein, high-fat. South Beach is low-carb/low-fat. Protein Power is somewhat higher-protein, lower-carb (don't know about the fat).

The point is, what ever plan I think is best doesn't matter if YOU can't follow it for long.

This forum that I belong to has lots of great info http://forum.lowcarber.org/

Good luck!

neither....if you want to lose weight effectively and fast do a search on 'velocity diet' i believe its called

Hi
I do not know much about these fad diets ,but this programme helped me so here goes,
If you are serious about losing weight, the calories in the food you eat should be less than the energy you use. You will have to increase your metabolic rate now, and plan your diet carefully.
Formulate your own weight loss plan and you will lose weight faster. More details available at http://tinyurl.com/m7ckx

Good luck
