Concering "shin splints". Brief exp.? |
I had recent surgery for an ACL tear @1 month ago. I did receive an allograft, so my recovery has been easy compared to a tibial paellar graft "my first repair on opposite knee". However, I am trying so hard to walk , just walk, not timing myself, but going as far as I can. First two days 1.8 miles in 25 minutes. Okay long story long! I have shin splints in both legs, what did I do wrong ? Or did I? Shin splints are caused not from the distance but your speed, when you feel the splints begining, slow down, and they will disappear, some walkers say that walking backwards for awhile helps get rid of the splints, beginners should never start walking fast, you gradually build up the speed. My friend gets shin splis alot. Our coach told us it happens by running alot. It'll be fine. Just walk them out and rest a bit. As it was explained to me, it is the constriction of the blood vessels that carry oxygen to the lower legs... All I know is it hurts tremendously. make sure u get enough calcium (and potassium) |
