Should I get a knee surgery?

I particially torn my ACL and meniscus when I landed on the floor by playing basketball about two years ago. I have been trying to strengthen my knee and I feel better, but the pain is still there and I don't feel like normal comparing to my other knee. Some people told me to get a surgery, but some people are against it. WHAT DO YOU THINK? If people have experience on this and willing to give me informative answers, I would be appreciated.

Hi, I completely tore my ACL and partially tore my medial ligamanet as well as damage to the meniscus amongst other things. Did this skiing. I had a complete reconstruction and went back to skiing 2 years after that accident. Subsequently I have had additionally knee ops, resulting from a bad tackle playing soccer. Last year I had knee op number 5. I have no regrets about the origanl reconstruction although the decision was pretty much cut and dry. You can get away without repairing your ACL if you keep your muscles well exercised and in condition. The problem maybe a bit deeper though with you and you could have an investigation carried out (artroscopy) which is a really simple operation and easy to recover from. It also allows the surgeon to assess your knee properly and advise you. I assume that you had a MRI scan originally when you damaged your knee - they are not always reliable. Anyway if you want to carry on playing sport I would get your knee investigated properly and get advice from a good surgeon.

You should see a orthropedic dr and let them decide

TO be honest I have horrible knees. I am 21 and have had both knees operated on. Go to the doctor and tell them about your symptoms. DOctors mainly want surgery to be the last case scenario. But in your case it might be awise choice. But see what the doctors have to say.

Well Ive had knee surgery and I have to say that......you just gotta do what cha gotta do. It helped me out because the pain was so unbearable.......but if it hadnt hurt so much I probably wouldnt have done it. Also you have to consider if you will be playing any sports in the future...trust me its not the same but without the surgery it could be dangerous.

I've had it done. If it's your acl thats bothering you, then knee surgrty is not the answer. What you need is surgery on your acl. If your dr. deems knee surgery to be needed then get a second opinion from another dr, and not from this forum. This a poor place to be getting that type of advice.
