Is it safe to drive with a leg brace?

I had ACL reconstructive surgery five weeks ago. I really want to drive before school starts back (I'm a sophomore in college). I'm walking without the help of crutches, but in a full leg brace (it can come off; it's velcro) for another 2 and a half more weeks. My doctor doesn't give me an answer at all and my physical therapist just keeps telling me to ask my doctor. I can move pretty fast in it and can reach the pedals with ease.
Anyone see why I shouldn't drive? (I'm 19, by the way and have my full liscence!)

usually ur not allowed to drve for the first 4 weeks because of getting ur pain meds under control...

which leg is it? if its the right then i wouldn't drive until the brace comes off... if its the left though u should be fine

*it will be quite difficult to get in and out of ur car though...*

best of luck with ur healing

Take it from someone who wanted to try... not a good idea because with a full brace on you cannot touch the pedals w/ both feet at the same time making you more likely to get in an accident. It is also difficult to stop the car with a full leg brace on. If you wait the 2 1/2 weeks it limit's your possibility of doing permanent damage, something I have done :( Also you can get the foot stuck under the brakes or gas which is a bad combination. I would recommend not driving so that you do not further damage your knee in any shape or form.
