I am going to need surgery? |
I tore my acl pretty badly recently playing volleyball and I was wondering what will happen after the surgery, will I be on crutches, how long will I have to wear the brace. You will be on crutches after having surgery, and you may wear the brace about 2-8 weeks depending on your what your doctor orders. You will probably be on crutches after you go back to school (unless you have a 6 week Christmas break). Here are some articles that may help you feel more comfortable about your surgery: YOU PLAY VOLLEYBALL?!?!?!?! I LOVE VOLLEYBALL!!!! SORRY ABOUT YOUR INJURY.......MY PARENTS KNOW A LOTTT ABOUT MEDICAL STUFF I'LL TRY TO HELP YOU LATER. As to how long you will wear the brace depends on what your doctor decides, but it will be for awhile. You didn't say whether it's an isolated acl injury or if other ligaments are involved. There may be some cleanup on your medial meniscus too. It depends on a lot of things, but they do start rehab almost immediately following surgery. You will definitely be on crutches when you go back to school. Don't worry, you will develop upper body strength which will help your volley ball and swimming when you resume those activities.:} Women have more acl injuries than men because they have "looser" knees. Your knee will be better than new when it's all over and done with. As an athlete, be glad that you are young and will heal quickly. I'm a skier, so I know a lot about knees..had knee surgery a long time ago, and I tore 3 ligaments and the medial meniscus. I ski better now than I've ever skied, and I'm a lot older:} Football players and basketball players have a lot of knee injuries...who knows, this might be the ticket to a new boyfriend on the football or basketball team:} Everyone will open doors, ask if you need them to get you anything in the cafeteria, carry your tray, etc. Enjoy the good stuff while it lasts:} |
