My mother is having knee surgery!? |
My mom is having the ACL in her knee basically replaced... I'd like some input on what maybe she should expect?? I had an ACL reconstruction done a little over 8 years ago. At that time, the doctor wanted me up and moving the day after my surgery. They wanted me on crutches, but more for balance; they wanted me using my leg. yes May God help her through the surgery and afterwords. your gonna have to help her out as much as possible she isn't going to beable to get up and sown the stairs. make her a confy bed in the living room or spare bed room and just do what you can for her. good luck! Ya idk about a knee, but i just had a ligament in my wrist completely ajusted, if it's anything like that... it'll be really sore for a few days but take lots of tyonal(that doesn't look right but you know what I mean) um and sleep downstairs! She'll have to stay off of it for the most part. Well my grandpa had it!! you should set up a room for her on the first floor!! walking will be hard for a while(maybe a week or so). She is probably gonna be in the hospital for a few days though too!! goood luck!! Well my aunt recently had one of these done so i know what to do! Your suppost to get 1 or 2 days of full rest! Then after that each day she needs to do a couple of laps up and down the living room or something. Then try lifting her knees up! All this will eventually help it to feel better and mover around more! i think this mit go well. but you would have to move out of ur house and go to a one store house. please make sure she walks alot and let her walk up and down the stairs and let her excries her leg. i know this coz one of my close relavis have had this done. i work with total knee replacements daily....i think her surgery will be less difficult to recover from. WalMart, Walgreen, Menards, all carry raised toilet seats for 18-22 dollars. (look in the pharmacy section) These are very handy as they dont need to strain their muscles to get on and off the toilet. also, a shower chair is helpful as she may fatigue quicker. if she needs to use a walker, hang a bag on it for her to carry things in. it also may be tough to lift the leg into bed, have her hook her good foot underneath the bad ankle. when in the hospital you could always ask for a PT or OT assessment to practice these things before going home. i recently got my acl replaced with a kadaver and i was doing great ..just go slow and no stairs bad idea i kno from expirence |
