Surgery with no insurance? |
Hello, I recently got injured playing soccer. I torn my ligaments (ACL) I don't have any health insurance at the moment. I self paid for all my tests (MRI, x-rays etc.) The doctor said that surgery is required if I want to play sports and be 100 % active again, but I have no means to pay for the surgery..especially hospital bills. Is there any way that I can get some kind of charity help? (I work, but I get paid with cash, so I don't really have to report everything) At the same time I'm insured in Europe.. I can possibly have the surgery there, but I can't go away from the US for too long . Any ideas? Most hospitals have what is called Hill-Burton funds, which are used to help pay expenses of the uninsured. There is a lot of paperwork to deal with, but they are able to be of significant help. Many doctors will work with you in arranging lower costs & payment plans. Talk to your county social services office--they coordinate a number of programs that provide assistance with medical expenses. Its a frustrating process, but if you keep in mind the end goal, you can do it. Good luck!! I have paid for a lot of hospital bills on the monthly basis, just like paying a car payment. You could try Public Aid. They have what is called SPEND DOWN for people who have an income, but have many medical expenses. There is a hospital in every major city that takes patients that have no insurance. Usually there is a nominal fee ($100-$150) for any surgery you need to have. |
