I need for taping techniques for patellofemoral pain syndrome. Is there a PT here who can provide instruction? |
I have been diagnosed with the syndrome with fissures under my patella after not being able to finish physical therapy after ACL replacement surgery. My quad muscle on the injured side is 2cm smaller than the healthy leg. The doctor has given me exercises to build the quad muscle, but I would like to tape for the pain. Thank you for any help. It all depends on the direction of the patellar tilt and glide. However, I will say that some research is coming out and saying that taping (as in McConnel taping techniques) is just as effective as a brace that puts compression across the patella. The movement of thinking is that compression merely allows the patella to track in the groove better. Specific taping techniques do not specifically offer any better tracking. A brace by Bioskin called the "Q-lock" has a strap for patellar compression. |
