What is the best ACL brace?

To all those who have experience with good ACL braces / know of good brands:
I'm looking to get a good brace for my knee. I have an MRI confirmed complete ACL tear. I have been living without it ok for 3 years. I can run ok most of the time. I do a lot of strength training, swimming, biking. The only time it bothers me is with sharp turns and if I don't warm up well, etc.

I don't want to do surgery for many reasons. I'm looking for a good quality brace so that I can go snowboarding, play tennis at a recreational level. Something that will give me a lot of stability and support.

I'm just looking for some opinions I can talk to my doctor/physios about. My physios seem to sell their own type of ACL brace and I would like to know what else is out there. Please let me know if you have had good experiences with a particular brace, especially if you are an active individual.

What's the best out there right now??

THANKS :)

We always perscribed our patients get Don Joy braces for post ACL ruptures, or simple tears. Many Orthopedic/sports medicine doctors use these braces for more than just ACL issues, but for braces of the whole body. Patients that we had said that it was a very nice brace, comfortable, and its not that bulky. Playmaker is the choice used for ACL problems. They arn't cheap, but i believe that it is worth it completly, for something like this, quality over-rides the price. Good luck

I agree that Donjoy braces are very good, but would like to state that it is risky to be doing the type of activities that require cutting, pivoting, and side-2-side motion without an ACL, even if you do have a brace. The brace can give you some support but in the end you are going to wear down your knee much quicker and end up having to get a total knee replacement in the near future. Just thought I would educate you on that in case you have not been educated on it in the past.
