ACL Injury Rehab?

Does anyone know where I can find a good ACL injury prevention training program? Online or somewhere else?

a google search for "acl prevention program" yielded the following: http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/knee_...

It is a good start for a prevention program, but definitely not complete. The most important part of any ACL prevention program is paying specific attention to strengthening of the hips and core, and training the proper neuromuscular firing patterns.

Talking about this versus actually doing it are two very different things. In my clinic, I work with patients and we do a lot of functional exercises to work on strengthening the hip external rotators, abductors, hamstrings, lower abdominals, quads, and calf muscles. These muscles are all responsible for helping to control your knee, and keep it out of dangerous positions. The other very important thing is learning how to land correctly. Some of this is achieved by strengthening the above muscles. The rest is practice, with the focus being on landing softly, and absorbing the stress. I work with my patients a lot with their jumping and hopping, not focusing on how high or how fast they jump, but on how well they land.

If you have access to an athletic trainer with your sport, talk to them about what you can do to prevent ACL tears. They can most likely show you some exercises you can work on. You can also probably find a lot of things online...try a google search for "ACL prevention programs".

If you would like more information on what I do with my patients, you can contact me at http://www.sports-injury-info.com/contac...

I have just had an ACL reconstruction and am currently having physiotherapy twice per week. The recovery time is 6 months plus.

i tore my ACL skiing in 8th grade. (January) i had my surgery in March, i was running by July. i had surgery and rehab at the Ohio State University Medical Center. and on the plus side all the physical therapists are extremely nice!!!!! i highly recomend them!

Flexibility is the key to preventing injuries. Find a good program that helps flexibility. I would recommend Pilates. It helped many football players have long successful careers. Aren't you glad someone paid attention to your question?
