ACL reconstruction? |
I tore my ACL playing footy (AFL) and then late September I had it reconstructed. My recovery was slow because there was something restricting it which turned out to be an infection in the knee which didn't show visible signs of being there until the period between Christmas and new year. I was quickly put back into hospital and had 4 more operations to try and get rid of the infection. My last one was on the 15th Jan. I was just wondering if anyone else has been through this and what was their recovery time after?? I'm supposed to be going on a trip to Central Australia in Mid-March, do you think I have any chance of going? wow. 4 surgeries after the reconstruction is pretty intense. if infection occurs, they'll take you back into the OR and take care of it. I don't know why another 2 or 3 were involved in your case. so needless to say, while it's even rare to get infections after an ACL, it would only take one more visit to the OR to get it flushed out. but then again, your condition i'm not aware of. recovery time should still be the same as if you didn't have the infection. as for your trip, at this point, your incision should be well healed to go, you'll just be working on your ROM exercises through that trip. some docs prefer a derotational sports brace, some don't. it helps protect the new acl. while you're okay to go, i'm still skeptical about the rate of infection over there. check w/ your ortho doc and make sure you have antibiotics with you if he says you can go. |
