ACL Question? |
I had a tumor removed in June and when they removed it they loosened my ACL so much that it is non-functioning now. It is up to me whether they go in and replace it. I can walk pretty much normal right now. I just dont know if it's a good idea to put my body through another knee surgery and rehab. Just wondering if anyone else has been through this and what is the best route to go? You said that you have RSD/CRPS, right? I would suggest probably waiting until you RSD/CRPS is in remission or very well controlled because having surgery again while having RSD/CRPS (especially while on the same limb that has the RSD/CRPS) can cause spreading, worsening of the pain, or other progression of the condition. I would suggest seeing if you can do enough rehab to get through as long as possible without having your ACL reconstructed. I would suggest talking with your surgeons and pain doctor(s) to see what their opinion is on having your ACL reconstructed. Good luck! Last year i completely tore my acl and cartiledge...i ended up having surgery but before i went they had me go to physical therapy. that strengthened up my knee so i was able to return to normal activity. however, if you plan to do any sports like running then i suggest you get the surgery. if you don't, then simply going to physical therapy to regain strength should be fine. About a year ago, I had knee surgery to repair my ACL and menicus in my knee. I was scared about the surgery. But I went through with it. It was about 6-7 months until I could do an excessive amount of physical activity. But if you find a place that provides good rehab like I did, it makes the process go fast. The time will fly by. |
