ACL Treatment???

a friend of mine has sprained his acl while playin football i need help on treatment and ways to make it heal faster can yall help me out???

For ACL treatment there are some stages: I assume it is not torn. Otherwise it would mean surgery.

1) Ice the knee - Put ice in a bag, wrap it round a towel and put it on the knee and around it. Do this for 20 mins a day, preferably 3 times daily.

2) walk gingerly, do not run.

3) If he can go to the gym, advice him to do more leg extensions. Start with very light weight.

Set 1: Leg extentions - Light weight enough to do 20-25 reps easily.

Do this for 3 sets.

Set 4: Leg extentions - heavy enough to do 15 reps without pain.

do this for another 2 sets.

Try it out. That exercise is used to strengthen the quads holding the knee and ACL up and if he can do it without pain, he should be on the road to recovery.

4) Take care on the stairs.

Good luck and good health.

RICE. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Take some anit-inflammatories. Ease back into training with slow exercises.
