Has anyone dealt with keloid scars after ACL surgery?

I injured my knee playing soccer 2 weeks ago and have consulted with many doctors. I apparently tore my ACL and partially tore my MCL. I am a very active person and would love to get an ACL replacement, but I am afraid that the keloid scar that will be left behind will be just as debilitating. The surgeon plans on removing a portion of my right platelar tendon to be used to replace my torn ACL which will require a 21/2 inch incision . Being that most keloid scars will grow beyond the point of incision I worry that the scar will inhibit proper knee movements and prevent me from playing volleyball. Not to mention that there will also be keloid scars on my left knee where the arthscopy equipment had to be inserted.

Any scar that may develop after surgery will not prevent you from playing anything in the future....not having your ACL reconstructed WILL prevent you from playing sports. If you want to minimize the scars then there are a few things you can do post-op. One is to make sure you keep the scar covered when in the sun...the other thing you can do is to get Vitamin-E liquid tablets, cut off just the tip with a scissor and squeeze out the gel that is inside all over the scar. You can start doing this after 10-14 days when the incisions have healed and the steri-strips are off.

the hell with the scar...........get the problem fixed. i shattered my right leg last Aug and you should see my scars from 2 surgeries and one more pending. just make sure you tell the surgeon what you expect and how active you are so he can proceed in the right manner..good luck to you.
