Torn ACL...Surgery required? or intensive rehab? or both? |
so i just learned i tore my acl. Is surgery a must? or can i rehab it work it back to normal? If it is torn you can never get it back to normal. They have no blood flow and therefore cannot repair themselves. You don't have to have surgery, but if you are very athletic and young I would highly recommend having surgery done. If not, Do physical Therapy and wear a knee brace. I just had my surgery done 2 weeks ago, no pain at all, was walking within days. It will never be the same, but I will be back to my sports in a few months. Keep up on the Physical Therapy, it helps a great deal! I had arthroscopic knee surgery for my ACL. I dunno about you. Go to an orthopedist. |
