Is it possible to tear the ACL from a patellar dislocation? |
Four years ago I was injured and was told I had a patellar dislocation, My doctor told me i had a slight lateral meniscus tear and a bone bruise and to do PT and I'd be fine. I found out halfway through this year that my ACL had been torn then (confirmed by retrieving my old MRIs) and had deteriorated. Note: i am aware of the rarity and difficulty of total knee dislocation, i just can't understand why displacing the knee cap could cause a tear in my ACL. Many times a patellar dislocation is caused by a rotational or twisting injury. This is the same mechanics of injury that is common for an injury to the ACL. A tear of the ACL would not result in dislocation of the knee. This would involve many more structures of the knee and would be very obvious. No. As a matter of fact, knee dislocations are rather rare. It is, however, possible that the ACL injury might have come at a different time, but I'd bet not. |
